as with a lot of animals, a lot depends on the individuals and how they are introduced and brought up together.. a lot of it will come down to you, and how you work the animals together..
some of mine, don't like the dogs and will drive them off.. some just don't really care about them and ignore them... pro was chased all over the place by mason and sami's springer.. and ignored him totally... snuff, sat on casey at the time, snapped at him.. snuff will see off rorys 6ft wolf hound with ease for instance... but was not brought up with her.. holly, pro and co, just ignore them in the main.. i do tend to say to most people, that most skunks out and about are better off supervised.. as in, not with totally free run say when you are asleep, or out.. in the main, i think its safer for the skunks, if they have a secure area they can use when you are not around to keep a sideways eye on them! if you have a dog who might snap at a skunk.. i would think having a scented one would be.. interesting.. i wonder how long it would take the dog to learn NOT to do it!!!! otherwise, much of it, as said, will be down to you, the human, to make sure the dog understands its not a toy or dinner.. and that the skunk does not wind the dog up too much and create an issue! but then.. i have cats who sleep with the chickens.. kittens who sleep with the dogs.. dogs who share bowls with the chickens.. (although two of the dogs will attack chooks on sight, so have to be careful with them..) its jsut a matter of getting them used to each other, and making sure either you are about, or that the animals are secure when you are not.. i do know people who have had strong bonds between cat and skunk, or dog and skunk tho ![]() N |

Thanks for that.
The skunk would be in a cage during the times I'm not around, and when I'm asleep etc. And would never be left unsupervised with the dogs. I trust the dogs to learn to leave it alone. They learnt quickly that ferrets teeth hurt, and that little dogs are often mean! So I dont think there would be any problems there. I guess I'll have to take it one step at a time, and just make sure no one gets the chance to be agressive. ![]()

I cant really give that much insight other than what nerys has already said, but my girl gets on fine with ALL other animals, isnt at all phased by them. its more down to 'are your dogs to be trusted around a small animal?' if the answers yes. get a skunk.... you know you want too!

I worried about the same thing. Ive got 2 terrier x's and I should be getting my skunk July. The skunk will be kept in a cage whenever I am out or in bed but the rest of the time I would like it to have free roam. Im hoping a water bottle and a firm leave will do the trick with the dogs....I can live in hope!
