just read on the doberman thread about training clases, would a collie benefit?

say we decide not to get a collie & get something else instead, what would you recommend?

i adore my border collie but she is a handful sometimes, not sure as a breed but mine is very highly strung but shes now getting on in yrs she's going to be 9 in a few weeks time. if you get them as pups they are very easy to train as they are very intelligent but they need tons of exercise mine gets 1 hr walk twice daily and when she's home she has the run of the garden too.
the thing with collies is they don't know when to stop. as they were breed for herding sheep i think its in thier genes to herd everything mine is always going for the backs of the dogs legs to nip them unless i call her back

oooooh this is so difficult. i'm getting good vibes and bad vibes about them.

we are seriousely thinking about getting a pup, other half really wants a border collie, i think they might be too much for us. but a pup of any kind is hard work so if we're willing to put the effort in, it could be great. but on the other hand, it could be disasterous.

Only you can decide that

all dogs are different even if they are the same breed

so you never know you could end up with a fantastic border collie

i have kinda had a border collie before. he was a beagle collie cross & was a fantastic dog but a pain to house train. think that's a beagle thing though isnt it?

we'll have to have a proper talk about it. if we did decide to get one, what would be better, a dog or a bitch. goes without saying we'd get one or both of the dogs done if we needed to. but what usually gets on the best 2 males or a male & female if one of them was neutered.
