Awww cool One of the vets I worked with had a totally blind Doberman, who only responded to voice commands in Dutch... that was a laugh and half! haha

He was the NICEST dog ever... really cool. Was like a 3' high puppy... lol.

Haven't read all the thread.... but, if you find a young one with docked ears/tail, you should be asking questions. As of April this year it is illegal (for the better I think).

it was illegal a long time ago unless it was for medical or proffessional reason ie they were a working dog and could catch their tail (crock of that is) luckily they are getting tighter on the dodgy vets who still do it and the home dockers.

Mine will not be docked and i want to see both parents and go for a walk with parents and pup

Yeh, but it was done so much anyway... such vague stupid laws.

Indeedy. I have an (undocked) cocker spaniel... I love her long tail, tis halarious. My grandparents have two: one docked, as it was done automatically by the breeder, and one not, as they bred her them selves

They seem good for trainning any tips as this would be an important part of our lives i want to go to classes as much as possible to socialize both of us lol.

Their recall problems would you advise never off a lead then. Ive experienced that they are tuggers do they get over this or is it just something you have to put up with
To be honest the police don't use dobermanns much because they find them difficult to train- "a bit scatty". I suspect that this is because dobes don't take well to the police style, old school training techniques so you might have to get a handbag.
They do get over their recall problems - it's just a play thing but you can't 'assert yourself' over a dog thats 100 yards away. Good positive training is what's needed.
I'm going back a few years but a dobe won the Crufts obedience championships once and if I remember rightly the owner lost the dog later on because it ran off. He was an old school trainer too.
