I doubt a captivebred ferret would know the smell of a rabbit would they?
Mine are in the next shed to our rabbits and we've never had a problem and we've got alot of both species, I wouldn't however risk them if the cages are not 100% safe as I am sure they would soon realise what they are supposed to do with one if the chance arose.
Basically I WOULD give settling in time, even if it's just over night ESPECIALLY if they are older ferrets as they aren't then used to the change, with kits you can play with them straight away as they don't know any other life and don't get as easily stressed.

Oh yeah and as for anything you need to know don't bend down and trust them to not bite your nose at least until you are used to them and vice versa!!

if its your first ferret let it settle in, if its not you will be able to spot the signs he's distressed.

we have one ferret that is scared of rabbits, if they have never been used for hunting or fed on rabbit then they won't know its food. its something they learn not something they are born with. if it was something they were born with biscuit fed ferrets would take your hand off for some rabbit and not look at you like you've gone insane and then basically tell you to cut it up for them.

you cant really keep ferrets on their own, they are very social animals and need interaction from others, although in the case of our Missy she lives on her own but right next to the other ferts....shes petrified if there isnt bars between her and the others, she also likes to munch humans shes that scared:'(

good luck

i picked him up last night, he is a year and half to 2 years old.
so friendly tho.

soon as he was out the cat carrier he was playing with everyone. and rollin over for us to tickle his belly
(my mum said he looks like a walkin sock )
he just didnt want to stop playing, and when he went in 2 his hutch he went straight to bed. and he stays there until we get him out

he gets in his bed..and pulls the covers over him, so you can just see his head

he had a bath 2day and a play in the garden, hes also been on walks on his harness :d he loves it.

he plays with my dad more then anything, he doesnt nip either me or my bf in play...but nips dad and runs up his pants

hes huge tho, called him harley

he is in the same room as the bunny, was seein how they are. and hes not bothered at all.
he nos the rabbit is there but doesnt go near his hutch at all.
rabbits not bothered too. still his crazy self

will get pics up soon

awwwww I love ferts. I really miss mine.. and really miss having them.

But I'm determined not to have any more! at least for a while. I've taken bits off the hutch so it can't be used without fixing it.. that'll stop me saying yes to all these people offering me ferrets!

He sounds like he's having fun with you
