Default I wish to announce that ....

Bronnie had a litter of 3 healthy pups. In my flipping bed at 2am!!!

She wasn't due until next Thursday. I got to sleep at midnight, then was woken by ominous slurping noises and when I heard a puppy squeak I was wide awake. Stayed up with her until she finished whelping at 6 am. Right now she is under my duvet on my side of the bed and I'm knackered. Hi ho, looks like I'll be doing laundry all flipping day. When I went to bed last night with the 5 little bed dogs, there was no sign of an imminent birth. She actually gave birth to the 1st pup cuddled up against me with her sister fast asleep beside her and her daughter watching.Nobody was distressed by it apparently but I took the other 4 downstairs immediately.I've had only 2 hours sleep and am in a zombie like state while mother and babies snuggle and doze underneath my duvet.Oh for just another couple of hours kip, but I've nowhere to go as I only have one bed.

That's more or less exactly what happened to me with my Afghan Hound. I knew she was in labour, but it was very early in the morning (with whelping box right beside the bed) when she started and I was dozing in bed. She got on the bed beside me and next thing I knew frantic licking and little squeaking and there was a puppy on my bed.

Fortunately, she had the other 7 in the box!!

I did have Bronnies box all prepared and ready but since the event was a week away and normally she is spot on, and since the pack of little bed dogs has a very close bond, she simply decided not to use it (she always whelps under my very high antique bed). I suppose she knew where she felt safe, but being woken up by a flood of warm amniotic fluid isn't very nice. I thought I'd peed the bed in my sleep. Not that I do pee the bed but imagine, half asleep, warm and wet legs and you get my drift.
Anyway, got the bed stripped, fisrt load now on a pre wash and Bronnie and 3 little girls are safely curled up dry and warm in her box under the bed.
They were saupposed to be 'lha-chis' (first cross lhasa apso/chihuahua) but my cavalier stud dog was the one for her and she simply refused to mate with Aslan the chi stud.So I guess they would be called Cavalapsos?
I got another hour in at 8am by grabbing a spare duvet and kipping on the sofa which is a drop arm one. However an hour is all I got as the dogs kept trying to get in with me and loads of dogs and me on a hard horsehair small sofa isn't condusive to a restful sleep. Now I know what zombies feel like.

She is now all happy in her box with them. I would never worry about rolling on them as I've slept with little pups in the bed, plus sick animals etc so they can be near me. I have some kind of anti roll sense. Even when I'm fast asleep I seem to be very aware of animals if one is in trouble, or sick, or has a fit or something. However, happily I'll get some sleep tonight. Had half an hour on the sofa earlier on which perked me up but I really need a good 8 hours to get me feeling human again. I wouldn't mind if I could just have slobbed about today but I had to go and deliver some stuff to son and visit the reptile place near him to collect my chameleon, plus crickets, locuusts etc, then drive home again, put chameleon in viv, put locusts and crickets in appropriate containrs with food water etc. I think I've been on auto pilot all day to be honest .
I'll take some pics in a week or so. I never bother much for the first week as she will just want to be left in peace and suckle without stress. There is one almost white, one fawn and one darker brown. I think the fawn one may develop blenheim type colouring but that'll get darker in a few days.
