Default Shocking...

A friend of mine was in a car park on Tuesday I think it was - one of the hot days anyway. Sees a dog in a car with the windows up, collapsed on the back seat and panting. Breaks the window, removes the dog and drives it to the nearest vet. Some Bd sees him in the car park, reports him to the police and now he is being prosecuted for criminal damage!!! GRRR

It's sad but unfortunately that's the way the law works...

These days you have to stick within what you can and can't do, otherwise it will end up in court. The best thing for people to do with dogs in cars would probably be to either call the RSPCA and let them deal with it, or to get Tescos to put out an announcement to get the person to go back to their car and let the dog out. As hard as it is to see a dog like that, the law doesn't let people go round smashing up property.

Sorry I would have done exactly the same as your friend. By the time the RSPCA or owners had arrived the dog could have been dead. I would love to lock these people in a hot car and see how they like it

yes - no time for the RSPCA. I asked if he was getting the police (or the RSPCA) to prosecute them for leaving the dog!!!!

HadesDragons - Unfortunately was a public car park, not a supermarket, so no PA available.

Thats the trouble with this country, we seem to have difficulty recognising the difference between criminals and people trying to do what's right and decent!

He did the right thing, it's horrible to see any animal suffer like that.

If you call the police in the first instance they will come quickly. Most plods like animals. Even if you call the RSSPCA, they have to call the police out to get permission to break the window. I once called the cops out at a carboot sale to a little yorkie distressed in a car. Cop car showed up within a few minutes, not only they but everyone who saw it gave the owners a real rollicking and they scuttled off all embarrassed.
I came to the concluision some time ago that most people are as thick as pig poo when it comes to animals.
I copied one of the RSSPCA small posters saying 'dogs die in hot cars' and have it stuck in my car window in summer time. Another good one is

I think your dead right, at least your guys, slow as they may be, do actually seem to do something. I watched that show RSPCA and they broke a car window with no police present as it was deemed life or death and could not wait, but the dog was dead. The DSPCA is a joke, they have TWO wardens for Dublin or at least they did up untill the time I last rang about two months ago, who work part time. There is no emergency on the week ends and they only work really funny times during the day. We rang them to help us rescue chicks from a fallen nest just out of reach before and we where told, well its only a little bird nest, what exactly do you want us to do and we would have to use the ladder too. We have reported people for cruelty, an open farm too which we report on a regular basis and they say oh well we had words with them and blah blah blah, such tripe, the place should be shut down but dogs and we have found a cat in cars, its a joke, they do not respond to calls, the police do though. People tend to say oh its only a dog. To be honest in this day & age you need to be fairly thick to not know the animal will bake alive, but as I have posted before, has this not happened in US where a child has been left to cook in a car. Some people deserve to feel what they put their animals through, then maybe they will be better owners in the future and learn from their mistakes, pitty the poor animals suffer at mans ignorance.
