Default ferret question..

as most you no i picked up harley from the 'rescue' a few nights ago.

and he has a bald patch on his tail, up both sides.

well yesturday when he was asleep on my bed. i thought lets have a look threw your fur.
and i found 1 patch of hair that has tiny little black/brown dots in his hair right at the root of the hair tho. and then i found a few on his tail to.

i pulled a few out and they dont seem to move, they are just like little black and brown dots..

any1 any ideas?

It could be mites as they would leave poop behind and also cause loss of fur, otherwise in ferrets I think it's adrenal problems that can cause loss of hair from tail, maybe ask the vet when you get them chipped this week just to be on the safe side.

Other than that I think it's NFWS (or something like that) that has a list of illnesses on for ferrets if you google it

Yeah to be honest I can't see why you shouldn't as long as their is no broken skin by where it should be applied, you might find though that it's not strong enough but it will give you a head start before you can see the vet.

One of our guineas started losing fur, we used the spot on stuff a couple of times but it didn't do anything, we had to take him to the vets in the end and he had to have injections as the mites weren't top surface so the spot on wasn't doing anything, they were living in the roots of the fur and gradually he would of lost all his fur left untreated, so don't forget to ask the vet just to be doubley sure, we don't want a new breed of naked ferret do we

Yeah I saw one on google once when I was searching for something ferret related, they look scary but cute at the same time, kinda like the bald mice and rats lol

Hope you can manage to treat it and it's a top surface mite if anything, as I said I know adrenal "thingy majigaa" can also make them go bald but I haven't read up on the details

Could be - a sort of hormonal thing that may or may not be to do with breeding........ or up-to-date thinking is that it may be vvvvvvvv early adrenal disease! (Too early to daignose!)
