Default Pet Sitting

Does anyone here use a pet sitter? (or is a pet sitter?) primarily dogs. Might be looking at needing one towards the end of the year, and it seems to be a better environment than living in kennels - but I don't want to leave my dogs with someone who isn't professional, doesn't look after them, gets them hurt, or disappears with them.. and the one company I found locally who appeared to be professional (police checked, licensed, insured, etc) said they couldn't take my german shepherd as it was a "problem breed"

So does anyone use pet sitters and how do you find them?

I'm happy to let people look after them in my home with references, police checks etc. but obviously have a lot of snakes and would have someone coming in daily to deal with those... perhaps in an ideal world I could find a live in snake/dog sitter!

If you lived a bit nearer, I'd have done it! I've done this a few times for a friend in Edinburgh who had 2 GSDs, a Scotch Terrier, a Maltese Terrier, about 25 cats (on one occasions 4 litters of kittens), 26 chickens and a pondful of fish. I loved it!

Sadly Cardiff is just a bit far away! It is the best solution, because I wouldn't have left my GSD in kennels - we take our cats on holiday with us because we don't want to put them in a cattery, but pay the price by staying in this country - not a great price actually!!!

There are quite a few organisations out there who have house and pet sitters on their lists which will presumably have been checked out by the company. I hope you can find something!
