basicly you wait until the bitch's discharge has started run clear and then introduce the male and the female, some views differ on wether the bitch should be taken to the male or the male should be brought to the bitch.

when they mate a good sign of a successful mating is that they will actually attach for a short space of time, thats not to say that the bitch wont be impregnated by a "wham bam" approach.

i hope this breeding idea has thoroughly been thought through, i'd hate to see more unwanted puppies out there.

Definatly thought and planned lots of planning! They have been doing it all the time i have known him thats 2 + years They will be keep most the 2 puppies 2/3 are going to ireland, and the res t i dont know yet (but i havent dicussed the rest with them - as its not my dog) and my auntie is interested in one too!!
Its along way away, as we have tried to find the ''best'' one out there..fot the breed..so its off to scotland we go....
a holiday!

Thank you very much for your help

By the way, this would not happen if i / we / they didnt want or care about the puppies. thats just wrong, and i and they have morals.

im really pleased that you have planned this with care, some people dont have any reguard for the dogs ot their offspring and continue to breed dogs that are overflowing in rescue centers. i dont think you will have a problem finding them homes as kelpies are not that type of dog.
good luck for the future breeding plan.

I'd say if you're travelling all the way to Scotland you might want to try and get 2 matings to be sure! Depends on the owner of the stud dog though. Again if travelling long distances, you might want to consider checking she's actually close to ovulating when you go, which you vet can do with either a swab or a blood test. More money I know, but it would be irritating to travel all that way and find you either missed it and she won'[t stand for the dog, or that she does stand but doesn't conceive!
