Fenwoman, I think the OP was merely referring to the parrot by its name - Quaker Parakeet!

I took in a trio of these about 12yrs ago and my god did they make noise. They are very social and loud but lovely birds all the same.

A quaker parrot is a quaker parrot in any language, even Merkin.
I have a copy of the book and it's pretty good.
They are true parrots and not parakeets you see. I'm debating whether to bring 'Crackle' back into the house since he/she is all alone in the aviary. Just have to figure out where I can squeeze another cage. This house just isn't big enough.

I know what you mean Fennie - parakeets as in Barrabands, Princess Of Wales, etc!

Yeah, bring poor Crackle in for the winter! Stick a cage inbetween you & the dog, you will manage just fine! hehe

Is it worth mentioning ?.Parrot means in a nut shell-hook bill.Parakeet just means-little parrot-AKA-Little hook bill. Now a monk/quaker i wouldn't call a big(parrot) or little parrot(parakeet) there more like a midsize parrot member.IMO they all should be called parrots scrap terms like parakeet & conure as it only means-conetail ??.There shold be set in categories like-

Giant parrots.
Big parrot.
Midsize parrot.
Little parrot.
Mini Parrot.

Then there all parrot and the a parrot is a parrot just identified by it's size.

Parrots are able to hold a bit of food in a claw and bring the claw to the beak, parakeets cannot do this.
Why not be specific? What is wrong with being specific and using the correct terms for things whether it be parrots, pot plants or anything else. Why should I have to dumb down ?
The quaker or the monk as it is also known is a parrot and not a parakeet.

Could you give some examples of what you consider a parakeet. Are NOT able to hold a bit of food in a claw and bring the claw to the beak.

For what purpose? I could sit here for 5 minutes and tell you some examples but I don't see the need to.
Why do you sit and have a think and see what you come up with :0)
