Its not under vaccinating though is it the research has shown them over and over again, they need to change their protocols - but the BVA won't listen!
Why? Well Vets aren't the highest paid small business' in the country for nothing now are they? Check the links to Canine Health Conern you will see stories of tragic events but also some great success' with vacine damaged animals thru homopathic treatments even when conventional vets advise PTS. They managed to get their monopoly on dispensing drugs back after lobbying the governement claiming poverty if they continued to allow the public to buy their drugs via pharmacies without the vets charging a fee for writing a prescription! They are now again allowed to charge you for a prescription and some are even going further by reducing the amount of treatment they're giving animals to ensure you HAVE to buy from them or fall foul of the new laws re animal welfare ie neglecting the animal whilst waiting for a prescription to be filled. Have even known 1 vet do exactly that without advising the owner their animal would need its first tablets 12 hrs after leaving the surgery -------- then HE rang the RSPCA to report her abuse of her animal! Soon changed his tune when she reported him to the Royal college after he'd failed to administer adequate treatment and prevent the animal unnecessary suffering. |

Fraid so Andy as of 1st October they are again allowed to Charge for a prescription downright disgusting to my mind.
More of them are also refusing to treat an animal IF the owners can't prove they can pay the bill!!!! What's that all about if it isn't money grabbing? They take an oath to First do no harm same as Dr's etc yet they're happy to see a screaming dog leave with an equally distressed owner coz they've got no bank statement or something with them to prove they've got enough to pay the bill? Recently balled my old practise out for refusing to treat my daughters dog when he was seriously ill with a lump on his neck. The bill was over £500 plus he was a 10 yr old dog so no insurance company would touch him despite him never needing treatment before! Man did they regret their behaviour when I got on the phone, its true what they say its not what you know but who - they didn't realise the dog belonged to MY daughter! By the time I'd finished chewing all the vets out, went up the chain of command lol, the treatment was started and the bill had dropped down to £400 with a grovelling apology for their attitude. |

There is evidence to show that a yearly booster isn't neccesary and could even be implicated in some health issues. Basically the booster costs them around £2.50 and they charge you around £30. Nice little earner which is why they are so keen that everyone boosts their dogs yearly. Unless of course you have an honest vet like mine who told me that every 3 years is fine apart from the lepto. |

I have always been told by my vet its yearly - I havent ever vaccinated my boxer X for the last 13 yrs however (shes 14 1/2 now) due to her utterly hating every other animal onthe planet and must not come into contact with them and hence we do not board her at kennels which is very difficult if we go away (havent for the last 2 yrs tho!!) but all kennels in our area ask for a vaccination record if boarding with them so depends on what your provision is with your animal really as to what you decide
