Default How often? Dogs + Boosters

How often are dogs supposed to have booster injections? I have seen a documentary not too long ago which claimed in some instances that vets were recommending boosters once or twice a year as a way of making money. Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this?

If you use boarding kennels its once a year if not its up to you really. Mine get done as pups but then about 3/4 yearly if that.It all depends on your location etc etc.

I do mine yearly, I do use kennels for a few days of the year for when I am at Hamm and they require an uptodate vaccination certificate. If you want to keep that option open you will want to do it yearly and get kennel cough too.

The vets do indeed want you to carry on having annual boosters but for some breeds it has been proven to cause auto immune diseases which prove fatal. Basically most studies done since the 70's have shown that once is enough as they have challenged the dogs immune system upto 11 yrs after their last vaccination with no ill effect to the dogs.

I do occassional Titre tests on my dogs to see if they are still covered should they be challenged say whilst out walking or even at a dog show. As long as I get good results the dogs DO NOT get re vaccinated.

They are called annual boosters.

We had the first for both dogs and then stopped. Neither of my two dogs have ever been sick. My mum did the same with both her dogs and one died of kidney failure when he was 15 and the other of plain old age at 14.

Our own vet advises not to vaccinate annually but a lot of vets still insist on it as they make money out of it.After all we dont vaccinate our children annually do we

It is advised to booster once a year though some vets say you can do them every 18 months.
Depending on the vaccine manufacturer, dogs are given partial boosters every year and a full vaccine every 3 years as some components have been found to last for up to 3 years.

After owning a vaccine damaged GSD who was put to sleep aged 15 months and seeing one of our long term cats at the sanctuary who is still suffering from the effects of vaccs(his whole ear inside and out is raw and bleeding along with his feet this is because the vacc has damaged his immune system I will never vaccination as often as people are saying. Our own excellent vet is a great believer in under vaccination too
