An introduction to Pro Keepers’ Lobby

Your help is needed but above all….Where is your passion?

Perhaps the biggest problem with those that display apathy is the general reluctance to see what they class as their ‘hobby’ as anything but that?

To me keeping exotic species as ‘companions’ or as collections can not and should not be classed as a hobby, l nowdays prefer to refer to it as a ‘passionate collective’

Whether you agree or disagree with this term is irrelevant, what is relevant however is that this is an industry, to me a hobby is collecting stamps or watching trains!

Perhaps if those that oppose us, only see that we constantly refer to it as a ‘hobby’ do not see the importance of what the species mean to us, can not see past the term ‘hobby’ , and as such perhaps see it as a disposable asset. And as such can not see that we do in fact play a very important role in preservation and conservation.

When in the reality of the situation this is a multi million pound industry, and as such the industry supports your hobby, for without the industry, where is your hobby then?

But perhaps if you were to refer to your animals as a collective in which you had years of experience, thousands of pounds tied up into it, would you not best be wise to in the very least say that you care about it - that you were passionate about those that are within your responsibility and jurisdiction?

The industry , the manufacturers, the retailers, the suppliers, - we need your help, we need your support - we need your finances dedicated to the campaigns that maintain your business’s - for as much as you need the money of the keeper/s - without it - where is your business and without your business - where is the industry.

Pro Keepers Lobby is not asking for your finances, but others are and have been for years, l am here to motivate the keeper in a recruitment programme.


I am sick and tired of seeing all the internal politics between powerful voices, there should be no conflict between this party and that party - this is not a popularity contest for who speaks best or looks prettier in a suit! No, this is about us all working together and saving what we do care about, what we are passionate about.


I am a seller and an advertiser in this industry, and proud of it, l too am a keeper and proud of the privilege there - for let us not forget - it is just that, a privilege to own all animals - one that many of you have spent years honing and fine tuning, learning and as such earning the right to keep your animals.


Fight for what you are passionate about or decline the offer to do so and as a result you will have no one else to blame for the downfall apart from yourselves. Be this upon your heads.


Pro Keepers Lobby is but a small fragment of this industry just starting out, a new concept yes, a political concept yes - but for it to succeed and cement its foundation stone, we need to attract members to its doors, and then perhaps with enough voices from all walks of this business we can raise our voices and our fists of defiance in unison . In order for us to start making a difference we need you.


The opposition believe they have the winning side all the time - do nothing and they are right.


Continue to act in an apathetic manner and continually biting into the bullet that they fire from their guns and then one can see why they are so successful at what they do, they have dedicated members, they are genuinely passionate about their business of trying to reduce your passions. They certainly have more money!


2005 figures would display from just ten anti organizations to our industry a turn over of some £200+ million pounds - staggering but true and that was back then but is growing.


Don’t let yourself be fisted by the antis!


Let us turn that same fist into one of unification and defiance!
Pro Keepers Lobby main aim is to fight pro actively against apathy and opposition.


Please, join the ranks - let us fight this together instead of continued efforts by individuals alone.


Even if you simply join to show your support then fine, this is something, but if you want to specifically have your voice heard then contact me direct. I am starting to build a powerful team from within the pro keeping ranks but need strong writers and those with a fire in their bellies. This is not about violence, for that proves nothing - this is about strength of conviction.


Show the industry that you care, and let the industry show that they too believe!
