how big's a large cage?
I personally dont think any primates should be kept in captivity, but i suppose given a big enough environment they wold be ok?

I think its ok to keep primates in captivity as long as you give them the enviroment they need, primates are mentally very sensitive so you have to be spot on with your husbandy, they dont live well on their own you need at least a pair really

wow! primates! marmosets are a favorite of mine at the zoo. and last week, the place that i had bought a snake from had ring tail lemur babies for sale. i about fell out of my chair! cheap too(relatively speaking). as a kid, my best friend had a squirrel monkey. it was awesome. i hope that you can get a marmoset. WOW again

I didn't want to say anything since it's your life but..PLEASE do not buy a monkey.
For every person who knows what they are doing who buys a primate..tens of people who have no idea (or think they know enough) get one and kill it or give it serve metal problems. It is pretty much impossible to provide the right environment for a primate. They need 24 hour care, every day. The problem is mostly abroad but the problem is bad here too. The cotton top is also one of the most endangered Marmosets- due to habitat destruction and collection for the pet trade.
Every person who buys a primate fuels a trade that is insanely cruel.
Primates don't do well in captivity. It's as simple as that. Even zoos have trouble keeping marmosets. They are so sensitive. They can go crazy. They get bored and destructive. They are also long lived and many people give up on them. They can also cause their owners serious injuries.
The primate trade is something that I have campaigned about a lot recently because it's getting so bad.
Importation is so stressful on primates that most of them develop mental problems or die. Wild caught primates will pine for the family members that they left behind.
Pet shops (mostly abroad) have no idea how to handle them and they have been known to chew parts of their own body off.
Living space is not normally the main problem. Primates of any speices need the company of their own kind. Nothing else will do. It can also be near impossible to recreate thier natual diet.
If you really want to marmoset then I would advise you to rehome at least two to have together rather than go through a breeder, or worse, pet shop. Even if you plan to spend most of your time with the marmoset, whenever he/she is left alone he/she will pine for you.
Even if you are planning on looking after it properly, you would be fueling the demand for them. I know that I can't stop you from getting one and it's none of my business but I just don't think that they make good or ethical pets for anybody. Please think twice.

you probably don't want to hear this but as someone who has kept monkeys i would not get one with snakes in the house. they can get very nervous and even the scent of a snake can stress them out.

to be honest, i don't think they make good pets and wouldn't recommend them to anyone particularly if you have kids or other animals.

Hope it all works out for you though.

Very best of luck.x

some private UK primate keepers are excellent at what they do, better perhaps than zoos, I think if you find captive bred primates and you have done the research and know what you are doing 100% then theres no problem its a small minority that give genuine keepers a bad name.

this is from a breeder,i have done my research for the past 5 years untill waiting til now.i can put in a lot of time and dedication.i also feel that if they are not cared for properly then its unfair but this little guy knows nothing other than people.he will get all the attention he needs and as for the snakes i can easily move them to another room.i am going to look today and if i am not happy with the care and treatment from the breeder i will not be buying.i will keep you posted!
