Are you planning on keeping your ferret(s) in or outdoors? Also, you could probably get half a dozen or more for nothing from gamekeepers or famers (normally its farmers sons that have the ferrets). As your a first timer I'd suggest sticking with a pair right now. You can keep a single ferret quite happily on its own if you give it loads of attention but they really should have some company - They are very playful.
