Ferret Basics
Can someone help me with the basics in keeping ferrets because i want to keep one so yea any websites or advise would be greatly appreciated

This used to be really good forum so probably still is although I haven't used it for about a year as I don't have my ferrets any more. The BFC used to have a bad reputation but I'm not sure about that now.

Well ive been reading the bfc website and it sounds good, very detailed and easily understood but i will give the forum you gave me a browse thanks! Oh yea does anyone know how much i would pay for a ferret roughly and where abouts i can find a store that sells them or a private breeder or something like that

You can if u look around pick them up for next to nothing really £10-15...unless u rescue one then that depends on the rehoming fee...
If u want something more exotic like an angora i do believe Nerys was saying about 100-150 but dont quote me on that!! Good luck cos they are wonderful little creatures

There are always loads on there. Or as said before you could get a rescue. there are loads of ferrets rescue centres around. The reason I commented on the BFC is that a few years ago is I thought it wa them that were advising the use of fipronil (frontline) for the treatment of ear mites, directly down the ear, and it killed a lot of ferrets. If using Frontline for the treatment of fleas and mites, not ear mites, you only use the minimum amount. Spray a little onto a glove and gently rub the ferret along it's back. I've just looked at the site and I have made a mistake. It wasn't that site that advised the use of fipronil. It was the NFWS site. I do apologise to the BFC for my mistake.

The trouble is that there are so many around a lot of them end up in rescue or being used, by unscrupulous people, for hunting.
I'm not saying everyone who uses their ferrets to work are unscrupulous but alot of them think that because they are cheap they are disposable. Living where I do, in the country, there are always stray ferrets knocking around. The poachers just leave them down the rabbit holes.

the best advive i can give is get a baby and handle everyday remember they bite and bloody hurt but as long as you handle from them being young they should be ok
