I think that the local cPl are affiliated with him. Generally he is great...also a herp vet. just unfortunate that some people have taken the P out of him and made him a little stroppy about money! I registered all my animals with them coz they are a good practise, but they have really let me down.

Just coz i is not a horsey person

OK....update Took Stinky to the vet this evening, and they gave him a good check over. picked up on a couple of things. He is tired, failing to shake of a slight infection (abcess)not eating/ losing weight rapidlyBecause he recently had teeth extracted, i asked for his mouth to be checked, also he has been seen by neighbours licking the pavement...i thought this could be a sign of toothache, along with the loss of appetite. The teeth are fine, but his gums are VERY pale...i.e. anaemic. So they have kept him, in isolation overnight, and he is being tested for leukaemia and the kitty version of HIV.I have been told that because he is a rehome, with no previous medical records, that there is a fair possibility he has contracted the HIV thing. Gutted

Went back to get him today...they are keeping him in

They gave him antibiotics and vit B12, which perked him up a bit in the morning, but by lunchtime he nosedived big time. His gums were even paler than the day before. The also gave him corticosteroid (s/p), which they thought might boost his appetite, but has the downside of attacking the immune system.

All in all I got one sick kitty that is waiting for results, but they are not hopeful. His blood count (cant remember what for) was very low (8%), when a health cat should be at 40-45%. If he doesn't improve we are advised he should be pts

The list of possibilities I was given: (please excuse my ignorance)

Feline HIV
Leukaemia
Virus that attacks the immune system (treatable)
Kidney failure

I am going to keep this thread going so that others might nontice symptoms in their cat before it gets too bad.

Wishing you all the best, doesn't sound good but he might still pull through - and if he doesn't, it's no great comfort but at least you're doing everything you can and getting him the best care possible.

Aww thanks for the support.

UPDATE:

Called the vet this morn, no improvement. After work i went to see him and asked if it might be ok to take him home for the weekend, since we are all at home now and he will have company and constant attention if necessary. So he is now home.

I have to re-admit him on monday morning for further testing, as all the tests done so far are negative. So no leukaemia, AIDS or anything else yet.

They think it is most likely and internal heamorrage (s/p) or kidney failure. however, he doesn't appear to be in any pain so they have ruled out internal bleeding for now.

His red blood cell count has gone up a bit from 8% but is still dangerously low.

Really upset about this, worse when you don't know what's causing the animal to fade away
