Default Cat supplied new pet

Last thursday my cat did his regular trick of dropping a live rodent/bird in the house. I think the cat gets some form of sick amusement from watching us moving all the furniture around while trying to catch what ever unfortunate creature he has dragged in for us. It's mostly mice and voles with the odd rabbit and on one occasion a young moorehen from the lake.
Any way the latest victim was a tiny, golden brown mouse which was obviously (despite its size) pregnant. Not being a rodent expert I had to look up the new beastie and get an ID on her. So I am now the owner of a wild harvest mouse, infact as of this morning I'm the rather proud owner of a wild harvest mouse and her six tiny babies.

Any care advice much welcomed and pics of mum a babies to follow in a week or two (as soon as they are running around the tank)

Just provide lots of hay for bedding, i'd put them back outside once the babies reach 5 - 6 weeks.
Maybe in a bush or in long grass.

Good luck - isn't it nice when cats bring you nice 'presents' !

I've already checked all the apropriate laws.

Conservation status
Harvest mice are categorised as Lower Risk by the IUCN Red List. Modern farming methods have caused a reduction in hedgerows, and combine harvesters leave harvest mice in grain fields with little chance of escape.
Our own Wildlife and Countryside act offers protection for some native UK mammals. These are pine martens, red squirrels, dormice, all bats, badgers, deer, wild cats, otters, hedgehogs, brown hares and rabbits, shrews, polecats, walrus, porpoise, whales and seals and some species of dolphins.

Was thinking along those lines but their are several groups working on breeding them and releasing them back into the wild. I'm going to contact them and see if a new group of un related mice are of any use to their breeding projects.

Yep, though I certainly prefer live harvest mice to loony, half grown wild rabbits bouncing around the front room.

Aww sounds cute. My 2 cats are a year old next week, the only thing they ever bring in for me is a feather. Thats about all the stupid things can catch! And no its not the remains of what they did catch, they are so lame, they come trotting in with a single feather - each. Better than a body of something though!
