some will release them into the wild rather than rehome them or it could of escaped from someones back garden.

There are also polecat ferrets, mink, both stoats and weasels do go near roads and can also become road victims. Polecats have a patchy but expanding distribution in England and Wales. Pine martins are mainly confined to Scotland, but they too can be found in parts of Wales and England.

Definately sounds like a ferret then. Could be an escaped pet but could also just have been turned loose unfortunately. I think the best thing you can do is ring the local vets and animal shelters and let them know because they will be the first place a pet owner would call.
