Default Rats?

I have 4 rats now, i was wondering how can you tell what type they are? I got 3 from a young girl, and she didnt know what they were. I know i have a sliver husky dumbo male, because i got him today

So i was wondering what types the others were, as the male's ears and much lower than my girls ones. Cant post pics yet though grr.

The female husky is defo pregnant though, she is massive now. will be exciting to see what babies i get. As i have no clue what colour/type the dad was.

Default rats

Hi. Why does everybody keep referring to other colours than roan as husky?? They are actually known as badgers in the fancy & i had them 14 yrs ago in all colours. huskies are differentiated by the fact that they have a roaning of the hairs ie white mixed with either blue or black hairs see below pics

Now here`s a mink coloured badger rat. sorry pic quality is poor but was taken 8 yrs ago & he was 4 yrs old then.

Now a BEW aka black eyed white which i might add i actually got the official NFRS standard for this variety in 1984

Default rats

Also i`d like to add that a lot depends upon the eye colour as to what variety they may be as well as if they have silvering in the coats or not.
Any one want to send me pics of their rats for id purposes, pref pics taken in natural light as coats show up properly, i`m more than happy to help.
You can either Pm me or email me nightkind@sky.com or just post em` here. Hope you didn`t mind me hikacking your thread, but i have been showing, breeding, judging fancy rats for over 23 years so do have an idea what i`m talking about.

Default rats

Hi Jen.
The pink eyed varieties you mention could be either champagnes or baby siamese whos points haven`t come through yet, although siamese do have ruby eyes not pink.
In the warmer weather the points on siamese rats, cats & for that matter most pointed marked animals, tend to fade & they darken again when it gets colder.
An old trick in the rat fancy to keep points for summer shows was to keep them in a colder room.
Also if a siamese cat has to be shaved at the vets, it grows back dark like the points & can take over a year to become normal coloured again, depending on the individual, which is why you may hear of people asking for spaying to be done mid-line, ie on the tummy.
