i want a dog
hey
ive been thinking about getting a dog for a while now. but i dont have a clue what sum stuff means. like kc registered??? what is it and is it important? also how wud be best in getting one? should i go to the local rescue centre? and also how are they with reptiles? i dont want to put the rest of my pets in danger

kc registered is kennel club registered. it not the most important thing unless you are going to majour shows with the dog etc. (think thats what its for, may be wrong)
i would go to a rescue centre. with the reptiles the simple answer is keep it away from them hope it helps lee

As you can see from sig I have canine, feline and reptile....The KC thing is mainly a matter of cost...We have a pure bred chocolate labrador from good working dog stock that instead of paying £450 for we paid £350 because we told the breeder we just wanted a family pet......so he didn't have to get him registered.....that way you know what you are getting, rather than a rescue dog who very often have troubled pasts and need a special kind of care and, if there are any problems any reputable breeder will take the dog back......Chips breeder advertised the pups as from even tempered, family friendly dogs and was adamant that if the dog didnt suit us he would take him back. As it is he is the most gorgeous, gentle dog you could get! .as for the reps. whenever I am getting any of them out I just shut Chip in the kitchen or he goes in the garden till I have finished.........you just dont know with critters whats going to happen. And I would hate for anything to happen to either!

thanks for your help, i was just really confused on the kc thing
im really wanting one now, gonna have to ave a look around see what i can find. im not sure about rescue centre coz the only one i know of near me is rspca, but dont they check ur home 1st? we all know what there like for reptiles

Any rescue center will check your home........you are better off checking local classifieds and papers........depends if you want a particular breed? your local pet shop will probably have loads of cards up as well....we found our boy on viva street.......

KC- means you get a pedigree that tells you about his breeding basically you know your getting a purebred, all my working Labs are KC reg as i need to know there are from good working stock, i wouldnt worry about the KC what i would think about is the dog the right breed to suit your family, a dog is a commitment not just in money but in time. think hard before buying one. saying that i would not bewithout my labs

yeah RSPCA are supposed to do home checks.. dunno whether there is a Home Rescue near you but they were fantastic with my lady.. they take unwanted/abandoned dogs n put them into foster homes rather than kennels until they get adopted. Highly recommend em but if u want any more info on breeds or anythin just ask on msn hun

defo get a rescue. my lab is a rescue and he is all i could have hoped for as a family pet. hes the best.
