Default ferrets and other pets

my flat mate (and myself now) has gained interest in keeping a ferret and were wondering if anyone knows what the deal is with having them in the house with snakes?

naturally they wouldn't be out of their enclosures at the same time but would a ferrets scent trigger a feeding responece in the snakes??? my main concern in the boa as i don't fancy him having a good sniff when he's out and going for me co's i'm the only thing moving in the room....

does anyone keep ferrets and big snakes, or any snakes for that matter?

I do, however all my snakes are upstairs in a spare room including the snakes and the ferrets live in the house living room.

They never cross paths all the handling is done in each repective room and the the big boa only gets as close as the hallway. Unless hes out in the garden in which case he has to pass by but i have never noted a responce.
In responce to having ferrets in the house be sure to have them all spayed and castrated before the next spring after their birth because male ferrets in season HONK to high heaven their fur gets greasy and they run uring all over themselves which they in turn run all over your carpet/couch and anything soft, leaving brown greasy stains everywhere that STINK. I left my male in season to breed and regret it big style now. My living room ponged for over 6 months! Neutered ferrets only have a personal odour that doesnt spread beyond their body.
I hope this has been a tad useful.

Oh and i must point out that ferrets as a genral rule do not get along with anything fluffy and smaller than themselves so keep them away from bunnies and hamsters!!

the only other small and fluffy is the parrot but nothing gets past him, not even the snakes.

my problem would be that the snakes are all over the house, where i'm not worried about the corns etc, its the boa/pythons i'm concerned about, the enclosures will be in seperate rooms but the comunal room (kitchen, living room, etc) is where they all roam around in turn when they're let out...

i havnt had a problem with the parrot and the boa but then again parrots dont have a scent thing where as ferrets do....

ah, its so confusing.

the ferret would be out of harms way regardless, it's my own safety i wory for if you know what i mean :S

Ferrets have a distinctive smell and i doubt a large boid would ever have been fed such an item so i should think (this is a very uninformed opinion) that the snake would not recognise that smell as food.

However obviously ferrets are very good escape artists and you would need to take very special precautions in the room where they will be living to be sure they cannot get out and torment a snake through the glass.

I have to use cable ties on my cage now as they worked out how to open the doors and waking up at 1.30am with a ferret under the duvet is no fun.

the boa is aware (to the point a boa can be) that there is a parrot in the house... the cocky lil thing torments it every time hes out!! maybe, it'll be ok...

also, what size cage would you recomend as everything i've read says different things?

Ferrets spend a lot of time sleeping, but when they are awake they are like little bullets of energy running and charging and biting things and people. I have three in a three tier cage its 4ft wide 2ft deep and nearly 6ft high.

They spend at least 4 hours out and about every night charging about like loons.
