Default Staffies

Hi guys

We move to the country (yeayyy!!) next week and we are hoping to rehome 2 beautiful staffie rescues (pending home visit).

Has anyone had 2 at the same time and what would you say the best way of settling them in is? Also, would a dog gate on our stairs be beneficial (and give our cat respite?!)

I wouldnt bother with a stair gate staffies can jump and if they wanna go somewhere they will go no matter what the best thing you can do is introduce them slowly to the family close the living room door and see how they react with out the cat there and let the cat come in when they have sat down they will be interested in everything so anything valuable, small, edible move it out of the way until they become used to the home

basically think like you have twins at home that have just learnt to walk and you will get the idea!

Im so excited, can't wait!! I thought if the gate was at top of stairs it would make it difficult to jump over - I know the record jump is 7ft for a staff - dog gates are 5ft ..

I really wouldnt recommend having the gate at the top of the steps as if the dog did get over the top on the way up it would try to jump it on the way down and could possibly hurt its self
Ive had 2 staffies at the same time and they were great the older one basically trained the younger one
as for the record jump lol mine can scale a 6 ft fence if she likes the look of the out side of the garden
As for the cat mine didnt have a problem with them to be honest they were scared of cats lmao the cat had more of a problem with the dog

Have you thought about getting 2 dog crates just to give them some where to go away from people and cats lol we use one and our doggy loves it as well as the kids (they try to climb in with the dog lol)

If you have any questions then give me a shout id be happy to help and good luck for your home visit im sure you will pass with rainbow colours

Heheheh you're gonna have a blast!! I would recommend crates as well, I've only got one and I used a crate for her for about the first 6 months (she was a rescue too at age 6months) I think it gives them a feeling of security. Argos do well priced ones.

I wouldn't bother with the stair gate at all. With a bit of patience they are the cleverest little dogs you'll meet and you'll be able to train them. Mine doesn't go upstairs - unless she really thinks no-ones watching and then she creeps up and lays on my daughters bed. Shes fantastic with the cats too, just took a bit of patience, again the crate was quite useful for them spending time to get to know each other (dog in and cats outside!) she quite likes the reps as well and has taken to sitting watching the cham!

Good luck and enjoy them!!
