when they are kittens they change from blue (born blue) then to green, then to whatever other colour (keeps that colour)

if that makes sense lol

To be honest I can't say I've ever noticed them change twice.

All kittens are born with blue eyes and the eye colour begins to change when they are around about 6-8 weeks, but the final colour doesn't really settle until they are about 3 months. Adults cats can have blue, green, orange, yellow, amber or brown eyes and some breeds have odd eyes, one blue and one orange/green etc.

As they change from blue to the darker colours they tend to kinda just look 'muddy', but I've never seen one change from blue to green then to another colour, just the gradual change from blue to the final colour, which I assumes means at some stage some kittens will look like their eyes have turned green.

Well I'm only talking from personal experience obviously, but the cats I breed end up with either green or amber eyes (amber is the colour I prefer - apart from my Siamese with blue of course), so I've watched many litters of kittens' eyes change colour and none of mine have ever changed from blue to green and then to amber.

If they're going to end up green they change slowly to green and if they're going to end up amber then they change from blue to a muddy sort of colour and then end up amber. Of course I suppose it's how you define green? I'm defining green as the bright green colour of an adult cat's eyes, but maybe you and Andy may be defining what I term (muddy) as a shade of green???

To illustrate what I mean here are a series of photographs of a kitten I bred about 4 years ago.

Here she is at 5 weeks old - with blue eyes:

Then again at 8 weeks and they are changing colour now and have that kind of muddy colour

Here she is at 12 weeks and they look even more muddy coloured

And here she is as an adult with her final colour - a lovely amber that I have striven to breed, as it's the colour I want my cats' eyes to be.

Did your kitten's eyes ever look that sort of muddy colour, or did they go bright green first?

You should be glad they didn't - white cats with blue eyes are invariably deaf. It's usually only when they come with the Himalayan gene (Siamese, Birmans, etc) that blue eyes don't bring deafness.

sorry about the double post above - have no idea what happened, except my computers running very slow this afternoon, so maybe I clicked twice cos nothing happened!!!
