Default pitbulls (need info RE. muzling)

a friend of my family owns a labrodore x pitbull ... it has never been hidden that it has pitbull in it.. and is registered as this..

the grounds on wich she is alowed to keep it.. is that it is to be muzzled when walked.

the community support muppet (thos half police wannabees) has been walking paster her house and seen the labxpit play fighting with the staffy they have... and has been round on several occasions.. climbing and leaning over the 6ft fence taking photos of the dogs.. one of wich ( the labxpit gowling at him because he is leaning over the fence etc...

our friend is scared that she is going to lose her dog...because the community bloke has said he is going to take her to court. because she has a dangerous dog that is not muzzled 24/7...

does the dog have to be muzzled inside the home... or is it as she was told.. only when in the public ??

peace

James

Do you mind if i copy this onto a dog website i use? I`m sure they`ll know.
I`m 99% sure its only in public, but best to check!

Yes only when in public does it need to be muzzled.
You are actually alowed to keep pure breed female pitbulls but they have to be registered and muzzled at all times when in public so not gonna be any different from that Got a piccy of this labxpit mate

This is not true. The DDA states that any animal in the hands of a member of the public BEFORE the ban (some 16 years ago..) could be kept IF it was muzzled and leashed in public, identichipped and neutered. You cannot keep any pit-bull or pit-bull type dog that was not bred before the ban came in.

I would make sure the labxpit is properly registered as if it is she has been very lucky, most animals which are even suspected as being part pit (the DDA covers dangerous dogs and dangerous dog crosses) and bred post-DDA introduction are destroyed.

As for the muzzling, DDA registered dogs must be muzzled in public only. I can happily supply you a link to the legislation to highlight this.

i will try and get a pic...

not got a problem with you copy/pasting it... we jsut looking out for a friend of ours...the dog is soft as shi...poop... will roll round wiht u licking ur face and everything :P (probably tasting you) but she is VERY protective of her terratory.. she is a guard dog. trained by outlaws :P so we sould easly kill sum1 if they came onto the property unwanted... hence why she is scared of losing her...

the police comunity bloke climbed up onto the fence.. to take the photos. and she growled and barked at him. so hes saying she is dangerous...

peace

James

I would question the right of the Community Officer to be climbing on your friends fence for a start.

The DDA is quite clear about the requirements around muzzling etc and unless the dog is causing a nuisance that could be addressed under Environmental Health issues or tenancy breaches if your friend is a tenant of the council or a Housing Assoc.

I would tell them to stop panicking as they have the right to allow the dogs to play in the garden. Have they challenged the community officer, as someone that has managed these types of officers in the past I would suggest they can be a little over zealous at times. You friend could always put in a complaint about being harassed by them etc.

Did he damage the fence?...maybe your friend should report him for causing criminal damage. To a real police officer.
I think you'll find that his 'evidence'that the dog is dangerous would not be allowed to be taken into account. Your friend might want to watch out from a visit from the RSPCA though because he will probably inform them just to stir things up.
