Default Husky had a heart attack!!!

I've just had a phone call from my friend.

One of her Husky girls, Aisha, died today of a massive heart attack whilst out having her afternoon walk.
She was running along with the other huskies, 6 altogether, and when Michelle called them back she was a little slower than normal in coming back. She came over to Michelle and while Michelle was checking her over she just collapsed. Had a few fits and died. All over in less than five minutes. I'm totally shocked. Michelle is in bits. Her dogs are all she has.

I take care of the animals when she is on holiday etc so I'm quite close to them as well. Aisha came to me for a few weeks after being neutered as Michelle works. All the girls come to me if they are ill or need extra care when Michelle is at work.
I am going to deliver Aisha's grandchildren in about 7 weeks time.

I even named my last Granddaughter after Aisha.

That's dreadful! How awful for your friend - she must be in pieces! Sad!

Thanks,

Michelle is in bits. She has to go to work tomorrow as well. She has no family so her animals are what keeps her going.

Aisha was only 8yrs old so I am taking her body tomorrow for a PM.

I think Michelle will be keeping one of Aisha's daughters pups after this!!!!

the only little nugget out of this is she didnt suffer, she died running around on her walk doing something she loved, although initially a huge shock at least she wasnt faced with having her put to sleep,i hope she might take some comfort in that in weeks to come

You are so right. I've had to have every animal I've owned put to sleep, apart from one and I came home from work and found him dead at the bottom of the stairs, so I know he didn't die in his sleep.

Sounds a bit trite, but your friend was lucky that the dog died so quickly, doing something she loved and that she was there with her at the end - it's my idea scenario for my pets, but I've never managed it - we don't all get that choice do we?

Really sorry about that, at least it was quick, no lingering illness.. I'm sure she had a great life and then didn't realise the end was near (dogs often seem to know if you ask me). 8 years isn't bad for a husky is it?

Hopefully her other dogs will be a great comfort to her (and you) and the fact that a direct bloodline exists would certainly comfort me.

I'm quite stoic about animals dying really as long as there's nothing I could have done / predicted / prevented, as long as the animal had a good length of happy life... we've all got to die some day, best to dwell on the positive things and all the good times than the bad.

I'm with you! The one thing that is (more or less) guaranteed is that we will outlive our pets and have to deal with their loss, but if we've done all we can and prevented them from having a painful, lingering death from illness, then there's little else we can do, except give them a good, healthy, happy life and enjoy them!
