I've had a blind rat before... But he was fully furred. Was born with no eyes. My female nekkid rat has a couple lumps. Never bred her as she was a pet only, but obviously they are prone to them... Her sister has several, as well. Shame.

I've heard about the tumours etc.
I'm hoping to breed 'out' to at least two totally unrelated haired rats and then breed back into to the line, cousins, for less 'inbred' nakeds. I will then try putting naked females from the F2 to the Grandfather. I intend to 'line breed' rather than inbreed if I can get a line going.
I don't mind if it takes me a good few litters before I start getting regular nakeds.

Mind you anything ends up with problems if inbred too much. You just have to look at the state of some breeds of dogs!!!!!

lol well when you think about all dogs coming from one common ancestor, the grey wolf, it's insane to then look at some of the breeds we have nowadays, it's no surprise they all suffer with many hereditary diseases too. Damn humans and their artificial selection bastardry eh?

But we'd be bored off our brains if they all looked alike.
As long as we are trying to better the chances of a healthy life then I don't think we're doing much wrong.
It p's me off when people just inbreed constantly.
I've not long been 'into' rodents this time around but as when I had them years ago, almost 20yrs, I'm tryng to breed a healthy line up.

I think I'll only get the one male but not sure yet.

Can you breed the naked females or do they sometimes have the same trouble as the naked mice does???
The bloke is breeding two nakeds but the female is losing half of the litter each time!!!!!!!

I was planning having a male and breeding it to a haired female and then breeding back the female offspring to the father!!!!!
But if I can breed the does then I might get one.

How much should I be paying for them??? They are 7 weeks old top eared.
Although he said their ears are massive and he doesn't know anything about rats so they may be dumbo's I won't know until I get there.

I paid 25 pounds for a naked rat and 7 for a dumbo, tho these were shop prices so you should be able to get them slightly cheaper from a breeder/ private sale.
I have heard they have the same breeding probs as the mice, tho never having bred them myself, I can't be 100% this is right

I actually paid £10 each for them so I got quite a good deal I think.
They are really friendly as well.
I've been told that 'some' females are fine with feeding litters. The mother to these two has reared 3 litters but only ever managed to feed 5-6 in each litter. She has only ever reared one female and the rest were males.
I htink the guy said she usually only had about 8 in a litter though.
