Default Anyone keep guinea pigs on here?

Hi all,

Just wondered if anybody kept guinea's on here. I'm thinking of getting a pair soon. Although the ones I have seen have seemed to be very very flighty. I'm currently looking at local breeders for babies / ex shows as hopefully they will be alot calmer. Although I did see one last night at my local pets at home, although I would never normally buy any livestock from there, this one is a rescue and the rehoming fee would go straight to the blue cross. Anyway enough of my jabbering lol.

i keep and breed guinea pigs... they are usually quite flighty when they are not being handled but once caught their fine... they calm down alot as well as they get older and if you keep them in doors.

Yes, I have two boars, which are both rescues. I would highly recommend that you find out if there are any rescue near you. You will be surprised just at who many unwanted Guineas there are out there, sat waiting for homes.
I would recommend boars too. People, for some reason, tend to go for sows, so the majority of guineas sat in rescues are boars. There are no differences in temprement etc. I prefer boars to sows, they have more character. Only keep 2 boars together though, as a trio would more than likely fight.

I have just built a 5x2 (that's almost 6 feet by over 2 feet) C&C Cage for them as most cages on the market are glorified cat litter trays, and the ones that aren't are £100+ This cage cost me £30 all together.

Go on this site, there is tons of information Guinea Pig Cages, Your Cavy At Home

I use my Guineas for animal handling with children. They are naturally nervous animals but with gentle handling and lots of patience you gain there trust and my two are angels.

Hi MissG, the one that was up for rehoming at Pets at Home was a boar. His name was Stanley ha ha ha!He was gorgeous may go back over the weekend to see if he is still there. He definately had his own little character, he was rehomed once but due to being very aggressive to his new little friends the people brought him back. He is great with people just not with other guinea's. Oh I see what you mean with flat floors now, don't worry I won't hurt you ha ha ha.
