you can keep them in the living room quite happily. Infact they will love it as there will always be people about. If you decide on rats please make sure you get a minimum of 2 (same sex!) as they really do need company. They can get depresed if they are on their own. have a look on my other post there are some pics of our rats. They are very intelligent, happy animals. They love to be handled (mine would happily be out 24/7 if they could) They need a cage with a good amount of space as they love to run around. It will also need to have room for a couple of hammocks, hanging up toys etc. Cat toys i.e jingle balls, catnip mice make great toys. So do toys with feathers. Please make sure you buy a RAT cage, not a hamster cage. There is a difference!! Also be aware that some rats do chew the bases on cages so it might be worth investing in a metal based cage like a chinchila cage. I have mine in a jenny rat cage and they love it!!!! I have loads more info on pet rats so feel free to pm me

I'm sure we all would like one of those but they're slightly more expensive than your egular Rattus as well.
I must say if I had £300+ to spare I'd have some.

On another note Nicci. Are you down this way anytime soon??
If you are then I have some gorgeous Russian blue satin rex dumbo babies as well as some bog standard Berkshire, I think, top eared you could have. Here's a pic of the Russian Blues.

Ratties are lovely little beasties. As already stated they do do better in pairs or groups. Single sex together are usually fine but expect a small amount of squabbling for dominance in the group. Fancy a lovely little escape artist? Last seen running under cupboard in my rodent room 2 days ago.

I had a baby gerbil do that. I hadn't realised he'd gone. Two days later I'm at the pc and I 'see' something running under the desk. It took me over 2 hours to catch the little bugger, he bit me and he's still alive ( I breed to feed), he's now called Billy Bent Tail. He didn't have a bent tail when he was a baby in the tank so god knows what happened to him. We have 8 cats so it's anyones guess!!!!!
Mind you one of his babies has a bent tail as well so maybe I just didn't notice it!!!!!!

Your remarkably more forgiving than I am, anything that bites me is instantly is earmarked for boa chow.
