Smile thinking about getting a rat

calling all rat keepers!!!!

Im thinking about getting a rat for my daughter, this might sound like a really stupid question with a really obvious answer but could we keep its cage in the living room were are snakes are kept or will this drive them crazy?

the living room would be the only place we could keep such a big cage so it would be out of the question if its a no-go!!

id appriciate any help or advice!!

I have my rodents in the living room along with the snakes and they breed so it can't be upsetting them that much.
The snakes don't seem too bothered either.
They are less than 7-8 feet apart.

The rodents are going in the shed in the spring though.

My rodents arent bothered about it either and they are about 3-4ft away from the snakes. Neither species seems overly fussed to be honest.

Rats are really intelligent, social and friendly so long as they are handled regularly. I would advise getting 2 rats though as they are social animals and dont like living on their own.

Get a pair and you have snake food too

2 females or 2 males unless you want them to breed.

The males are bigger, slower and slightly more chilled out (arent we always?) if you prefer them for handling. They can live together without any problems too.

Just make sure if you are purchasing from a petshop the rat is not sneezing, I purchased one the once and one sneeze can soon turn into a respiratory infection very quickly!! Don't know if anyone else has experienced this?! But on a good note rats are brill, and males are alot more chilled out
