although they are not attacking people and are living quite peacefully in the UK, so i don't see why they can't stay there.

The existance of these will take some proving (officially)- if someone does capture, kill or get decent footage of one then the authorities will say that it must have recently escaped from a zoo/circus and that it is a one off.

Saw a program recently on a sub-species of leopard that lives and thrives on Sumatra. However the film crew took months to get any decent footage of the animals even though they knew roughly where they were, and they also knew that there was quite a large population of them. The situation was similar on another documentary I saw about Bob Cats in the Northern US/Canada (I am not Mr Discovery Channel ... honest).

The difficulty of filming big cats wild in the UK is therefore clear.

i once spoke to some one who owned a wildlife rescue centre and he told me he was told by police that there was deffinatly big cats in the Uk and that they find evidence regulary of them living in devon and some other places which i cant remember.
But the reason he was told this is because they went out to rescue a "cat" that was caught in a snare and it turned out to be a lynx. the police told him that he could not tell anyone about it but guess what ... he did lol
There have been sitings of lynx around my area and they have even found a female with kittens at a local school a couple of years ago.
quite intresting to know there are big cats out there even if there is only evidence of lynx.

i was lucky enough to see an escaped panther. we have a big woods behind our garden, and basically i was walking the dogs. they ran off ahead. at that moment at the side i saw a big black tail. had no idea what it was so went along the path and saw a very large black cat, which i assume was a panther.

there have been alot of reports in my area, and i have been lucky enough to see it.

other things that point to its existence are dead muntjack deer, rabbits (and not through myxie) and footprints.

was watching Bens zoo the other week and he had a jaguar escape. his zoo is right next to dartmoor so it makes you wonder whether this is the first animal to escape from here
