My springer spaniel was only 6 wks old and she has some problems she is very very insecure no matter how much security she gets and she is petrified of other dogs even though she lives with 3 sled dogs.......I took meg at 6wks as i knew she had a fighting chance coming with me but she has a few problems because of being so young when taken from mum
that depends purely on the breed of dog and how u treat em when they get home. i literally became our german shephards mum when we got her a 6weeks and i mothered and nursed her like a mother dog does her pups. she is now 7month old and she is still fine. she loves seeing other ppl and loves other dog and is afraid of nothing except the hoover lol. sorry u had probs but i have had dogs all my life nearly and we used to take them at 6weeks nearly everytime and had no probs. sorry if u found that u had probs with them but i never have.

all the puppies of the mother tiny hve gone except 1 other dog. they are all eating solids and they needed to get rid o pups soon as poss as they couldnt afford to keep the pups till 8week plus he 7 week not 6week as lee stated he might be. all tiny's pups always go asap as soon as they on solids. she a proper bransholme dog she had 2 or 3 litters this year.

All of my dogs have been pampered from being brought home i have 4 of them they are all fine but meg has problems due to the fact she was completly taken from her mum at 3 1/2 4 weeks old then sent off to new home the day she turned 6 wks

Im sorry but im a firm beliver that puppies should stay with their mums till at the least 8 wks unless there is a reason they should be taken from them

i know i got meg young but she was a result of a puppy farmers produce so i wasnt gonna walk away

I too have pretty much always had dogs and the only dog i have ever had so young was meg my springer my german shepherd pups didnt leave the breeder till they was 10 weeks old (i had them many moons ago)

My arguement there would be why let the dog keep having litters if they cant afford to feed and keep the puppies till the age they are supposed to leave?

Sorry I find it very wrong

Emma, the fact that your dog was taken away from its mum at 3.5 weeks is the problem i should think. When both Sekhmet's dog and my dog are both fine after being got at 6 weeks shows to me that it is not a problem.

yeah well they are not breeder! they dont have much choice as tiny keeps jumpin the back fence and going off and gettin humped by any dog goin hence why they are called bransholme dogs.

Why don't they get her spayed?

Far cheaper than having to spend loads of money bringing more puppies into the world...

ETA: I have to say I agree with Emmas sentiments here.

thank ou so much for that. i got my german shephard from a kc registered breeder she is a 100% pedigree dog and the breeder who has been breeding them for 15years has never had any probs letting her puppies go at weeks as long as they are on solids. she was keeping 1 of her puppies till 10 weeks but that was because he was the runt of the litter and wasnt eating solids yet.

Ofcourse they have a choice they could always have her spayed and in the long run that would be much better than having unwanted puppies every 6 months and if cost is a big issue then the RSPCA and PDSA do vouchers
