Default Just got a rat

As title says, got a wee male rat yesterday

Thing is, after doing some reading last night it suggests 2 is better than one.
Is this probabley a "requirement" or just a "It'd be nice" kinda thing?
See if it's really advised to have 2, I'll try and get down to buy his brother (Well, the other male he was with in the shop) asap before someone else gets him

I would personally say that 2 is a necessity for a happy rat. They really are social group orientated animals and I would never sell my baby rats as single pets.

I'll try and get down there then to get his mate.
Meaning when they grow a bit I'll have to upgrade cage size but, no worries.

working all sodding week now, this might be a mission

Ill second that mate. They are much better off when not alone.

Best advised to keep them in no less than a pair.I used to have 5 males living together. Is there no way you could ring the place you got him from to see if they will keep hold of the other till you are able to go and get him?
Pictures when you get the chance lol

Unless you have the time to spend 16 - 20hours a day with it for the rest of its life then you'd be better getting it a friend. I used to keep a solo male ages ago and he ended up lonely and vicious. The groups of rats I keep now all seem far better natured and more balanced than my first "Kender"

I'll try to buy his mate.

I'd send my misses down to get him, but she's ill and 30miles out of town at home.
Maybe I can get a looooooong lunch from work to go get him

LONG LUNCH!!!

Deffinately get him a friend. I've got a group of 5 boys who all live happily together, but still love the giant human that goes in to spend time with them. Just because he has company of his own species, doesn't mean he'll love you any less, but it just makes sure he's never lonely... Since they are mostly awake when we're asleep (but aren't upset about being woken up for a daytime cuddle and play).

Definatly get him a friend. They can get depressed on thier own. They need the company. A jenny rat cage is a great cage for 2 rats. I have that cage and love it!

Jenny cage? How much is that then?

Looking at the one I got, the cage he has should do him and his mate for a while, but not forever
