Generally speaking you won't find Husky rats in batches of frozen food - hooded, yes, but generally not Husky.
I do occasionally get Champagne Hoodeds out of my lot, mind - what I'd suggest looking for next time is one that doesn't have a blaze at all, which should reduce the chance it carries the Husky roaning trait.

Hi Katie
I keep and breed husky rats so can tell you that ghost looks to me like a black husky i have one little girl here exactly the same but she will fade out in her colour and will probably end up a real dark grey in colour with the white ticking that all huskys seems to show she is a banded husky by the way you can get two varieties banded like ghost or full huskies like ruby seems to be ie full colour on back with the white ticking running through it ruby looks from the photos to be a champagne husky but dont be surprised if she fades right the way out to look comletely white as one of mine has done that even though she was champagne when i bought her.I ghave a lilac one here as well which is beautiful to look at but is full like ruby. As for food i feed my a mix of small animal feeds supplemented with virtually everything rats love variety and will eat most things, mine like everything from eggs to apples and even a bit of chocolate now and then. They get pumpkin and sunflower seeds and lots of vegetables and as a real treat the odd bit of cooked chicken. Rats are naturally curious and with proper handling make wonderful pets and loose alot of their fear but it is good to provide them witha safe place as you have discribed in your thread, and the robe thing is normal for them as it gives them a place to hide in and feel safe whislt out of the cage. I will say some can be very interactive with you i have one that insists on inspecting my mouth to see what i have eaten that day and enjoys spending all her time curled up on my shoulder when not doing so but she is now four years old and blind but still gets around and eats well etc and is not in any pain, i have her sister as well who is a bit shyer buts tillas hectic. As for caging i have two different types of cage i use a jenny cage which yes can be awkward to get into but easily houses six rats and gives them lots of tubes etc to run through and feel safe and also a chinchilla cage which i find is good for cleaning etc as has a wired bottom so you dont have to remove the rats from the cage if oyu are in a hurry. I think it just comes down to personal preference and i can say my jenny cage hasnt got gunky at all. Well sorry for the long post hope this info helps you out if you have any more questions please dont hesitate to pm me. Sam |
