Default what to feed to chickens

This has arisen from a disscussion i had with my Granny. Her sister has some chickens and she feeds them on (amongst other things) luncheon meat. I don't think this can be healthy. Any help?

Depends on how much meat they're getting and whether they intend to eat the chickens or just the eggs.

You can bet that if a hen found a mouse nest she'd probably snaffle up the pinks.

I'd think a bit of meat as an occasional treat wouldn't do them any harm - especially if the chickens are not intended for eating themselves and all eggs are cooked properly.

I fed mine on bran once or twice a week mixed with broken up egg shells. Bran costs about £3 for a 15k bag and lasted me about 3 months for 4 chickens.
Mine were producing eggs every other day.

I think they're fed on a mix of veg, grain etc., and the bit of lunceon meat so a fairly rounded diet.

as long as you're not selling the eggs i think it's ok, but defra does not allow the feeding of any animal product to other livestock.... which chickens are even if they're only kept as pets

having said that yes i know from watching them they love a nice fresh warm mouse or two - or even a frog if they catch one!!

Grapes aren't very good for many animals - even in small doses grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure.
