both of mine are done. both happy healthy. Like i said in an earlier post on of mine was a hyper sod and kept humping the dog up the road. we had him done and hes alot calmer. but still a bit hypo. to be honest if you definatly dont ever want to stud him then get him done but make sure u never do cos once the ops done thats its no more balls.

Hes a Stafford isnt he?

Not generally sexually hyper dogs, alot of people dont bother castrating staffs as they believe it makes them a little more agressive,
Depends what you want in a dog,i have to say im not keen on non castrated males purely for cosmetic reasons,
but if you want to show or breed somewhere down the line you wont be able to,
If you can live with looking at his balls, and hes not a humper, theres no medical reason to have him done,i do think non breeding bitches should be spayed though,to save down the line medical probs but thats just my personal opinion

Castration wont always help in cases of over sexed, aggressive or hyper dogs. In many cases it will but there are a few cases where behaviour modification is needed too. Alot of dogs will hump to show their status and to dominate. If you have any concerns then you should speak to your vet or a nurse at the practice and they will be able to advise you.
Timing can also be crucial in castrating, for instance I wouldnt reccommend castrating a six month old dog that was very nervy and submissive. My dog was like this and I waited until he was 9 months old and he is tons better with other dogs now.
I would definately reccommend castration for health reason, testicular cancer and prostrate problems are surprisingly common in entire older dogs. Theres also less chance of him escaping to find a bitch and getting himself into an accident.

ive got a 9mth old rottie and he isnt done- i didnt see the point as my last rottie wasnt done either and we had no problems with him. if brutus starts to hump everything and it gets to point that it needs done we will do it

Thing is I wont be showing him or anything as its not something I would ever do and I dont think people would want him as a stud dog if he hasn't won anything so its unlikely he will be bred from as I wouldnt stud him out to people who just want puppies to sell. I think it will be a case of seeing how he goes if he starts shagging everything in sight it will be bye bye testicles unfortuantely for him!

Partially correct.

Testicular cancer IS somewhat common in older entire dogs, but they rarely get prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer is MORE common in neutered older dogs than testicular cancer is in entire males.

I'd rather have an entire male with testicular cancer (as then he can be neutered as treatment) than a neutered male with prostate cancer, as the treatment to deal with THAT is much more extreme.

My opinion is that if you're not prepared to keep an animal in its natural biological state then you shouldn't be keeping it in the first place.
