we are definately getting our border pup castrated.... if i can limit the chance of him getting testicular cancer I'm going to... plus we don't want to breed him and we don't want him running off when there's females in heat near and possible accidents (unwanted puppies).

I didnt mean testicular cancer, that is fairly rare, but entire dogs will get enlarged prostate glands which can be very unpleasant. Its not just a case of castrating a dog with testicular cancer to 'cure' it, you have to think about the chance of secondary tumours and usually the dogs with these cancers are older dogs who are less able to cope with a general anaesthetic. Another cancer dependant on testosterone are anal adenocarcinomas, tumours around the anus which can be very uncomfortable and not always treatable. In my opinion it is better to castrate a young, healthy dog which can recover quickly than risk my dog getting any of these awful conditions.

we had our dog castrated a while back, we werent planning on it but he was peeing on everything in the house and humping people (REALLY not good for a great dane) he couldve actually hurt someone with his randy behaviour! i think though that if he wasnt doing those things we never would have got him done.

I think it will be a case of seeing how he goes if he starts shagging everything in sight it will be bye bye testicles unfortuantely for him!

If hes a red staff he will be a desirable stud regardless of show status or pedigree,
however youre right alot of people breed for the cash,i dont believe in having unwanted litters,
I doubt he will become a 'humper' staffs just generally dont, they dont seem to want to,

Something you should be aware of,if you have a dog castrated they give off a similar scent to a bitch in season,Badger gets humped far more than my bitch Millie, which is a pain as hes prone to dog aggression and this does nothing to persuade him to ignore other dogs when they are mounting him
