I've never castrated a dog and never had any problems with mine. You haven't said if it is a pedigree or mongrel. Some pedigree breeds are very excitable and neutering will help to calm them.
If it was my dog, I'd wait to see how he behaves when he's sexually mature. If he's humping people and behaving in an over-excited way and you can't calm him down, then you should consider it, but if he remains calm and is settled, behaves well and doesn't make a fuss about getting out to look for females, then I wouldn't do it. Just my personal opinion!

we had a dog for 15 years and he was a randy bugga!!! he would escape every time he smelt a female on heat and he used o hump his bed and people and it was just wrong!
Looking back on it I wish my parents had got him done, my friend has a castrated male and they never had these problems. one example of his behavior is he went through the cat flap to get to my neighbors dog and he is a labrador! Castrating calms them so much as i cant see it being pleasnt for them to have to get like that. My guinea pig, Rabbit and cat are all castrated. |

Yes, but it does depend on the individual. My first dog was a labrador and they are notorious for being excitable, but I never had a problem with him. After him came Afghan Hounds and then a GSD and none of them every displayed any behaviour that made me think castrating them was a necessity.
Like people, some animals are over-sexed and some aren't, so why not wait to find out?

Came across a few of those in my time, have to say, but fortunately never owned one!
Only time one of mine ever displayed sexual behaviour was my GSD and my husband and I caused that! We noticed that whenever my son and daughter were fighting (which was often), he used to go in and push at my daughter and very gently nip her, never my son! Then if my son and husband, Barry were play fighting or my son and I were play fighting, he would behave the same with my son. One day we started talking about his loyalties and how he protected my son against my daughter and me and him against my son, so who would he protect if Barry and I were fighting, so we decided to test him. We began to wrestle on the floor and were both shouting. Well, he ran around and around us crying and squeaking on and obviously getting upset at what was going on, but presumably couldn't decide where his loyalties lay. Eventually he rushed in grabbed my backside and started humping!!! My husband said this was his way of saying "if you mess about with my dad I'll give you a good ........" I just think he loved me so much!!! ![]()

we got our dog done recently as he kept getting quite excited and was doing naughty things to people and things around the house which wasnt very nice.when we used to take him for a walk and he come accross a female he got really excited and was quite embarrasing.
we now have a female aswell so as sooon as we got her we got him done as we didnt want any pups and this has really calmed him down. he is more placid. but is totally your opinion. if you think it best to wait and see what your dogs personality is like. it totally up to you ![]()

i do actually have to agree there, although we had blue done, we did it as we have a bitch also, but when i was growing up dad would only have dogs (as opposed to bitches) and we were known to have 3 at any one time and no fights or anything.

I had my dog 6 years with no problems, got my bitch spayed at 7 months. One day dog goes beserk humping crazy and sadly that ended with a trip to the vets for the snip snip as it carried on for 3 days solid!! Wish i hadn't had to be didnt have a choice, however hes a much nicer dog now, calmer and more affectionate. He still pee's on everything in sight when out walking though.
