Default Male is to horny...

My male rat is way too horny i think, and stresses the female out. I woke up at 5am and he was hasing her like mad mating etc, and she just roled over squecked alot and tried to get free...

What would you suggest...another female? split (dont want to do that cause id dont now if she is defo pegnant! and i need her to be)? Bigger tank?

He is in a box in thier tank at the moment.

Thanks

SEPARATE THEM!!!! Don't you know you have to keep males and females apart so they don't breed?? There are too many unwanted rat babies in the world already, please don't bring any more into it that might end up unloved or in bad homes!

Ug, poor rat babies as snake food... I appreciate that snakes have to eat too but I couldn't have one, my rats would kill me

personally i would only put the male and female together when the female was in season as the male will just make the female stress out, in the time she isn't in season then i would have them both in separate cages with a friend for both to keep them company and also the other female will help care for the young

Really, if you can't tell when a female is in season, should you be breeding? It's quite obvious. They need friends of their own sex...

i agree with Amalthea i keep all my breeding rats in 1:2 or 1:3 there have a litter then the males are taking out and popped in one of my bachelor pads so the females can have a break idont back to back breed not far on the females
