I was just wondering because when I bred my baldies they fought over the babies and ended up really hurting 3 of them and one died cuz the two girls tried to basically tug of war with them.
Some people told me then that they shouldn't of been kept together to have the babies, but since then I have seen loads of people who keep multiple females together to breed from so it's confused me somewhat lol

i know what you mean!!
i did used to also leave females in together but after i have disturbed a nest when checking on them the mothers used to round up the baby's and sometimes move them, if there was more than one litter in the group i could end up with all the baby's in one nest so could be 25 - 30 + and one mum trying to feed them and pushing other mum away, they are protective of there young , they are great mothers but a single mum cant feed that many babys no matter how much she trys.
that was the first reason i started splitting mums, then the hammock problems lol.. but now they go into there own breeding tank whilst the baby's are young... it saves lots of problems and mums seem to prefer it.

Hi,

I have does that like to be together when they give birth but others who like to be alone.
I've just got my granddaughters two rats home to give birth. I don't want the kids playing with the babies.
They weren't meant to be breeding them but as their big sister has a boy then the little sods, 5 and 6 yrs old, snuck the girls in apparently.
I have them together but if they start fratchng over babies then I'll seperate them then.

Well they were very clever then because last night Raeven had 10 and this morning Dora had 11.

Raeven did well with hers but this morning when I got up Dora had had her babies and left them all, afterbirth attached, all over the RUB.
Luckily enough Raeven sorted a few and I cut the rest of them.
They are all alive but Dora won't touch them.
I've allowed Raeven to try and bring them all up. Hopefully Dora will 'get the message' soon and help. She's not trying to hurt them she just won't feed them yet.

I've no doubt Dora will start helping today some time she is probably knackered from giving birth but until then Raeven is doing a sterling job.
I've given them some scrambled egg and insect feast for protein and some kitten milk to help them along.

I'll be able to tell the litters apart because Raeven will have had all RB and Dora can't have any RB as there is no RB in her line. She is pearl essex.
From what I've been told therefore she can't have RB babies.
Also she is top eared so will have some tp eared babies.
I'm looking forward to seeing what she has had.

This was no accident the little sods.
it's just as well I brought them here last night because the second litter would have died. My daughter wouldn't have known what to do.

Here's a pic of the two litters in the nest.

Right now I'd like to make it common knowledge that I hate you for living too far away.

I want that little capped in the top pic and one of the black selfs.
It is capped and not bareback isn't it???
Whatever it is it is gorgeous.
