Default Birds as pets

I was wondering if someone can tell me how the care for a bird is, is it hard or is it medium or easy? Also, I need to get a bird that is quiet and doesn't make loud noises. Can you guys help me out and tell me a kind of bird that is smart but not loud.

Most parrot-like birds are loud. If you don't want lots of noise - get some zebra finches. Even a small cockatiel makes a hell of a racket when it gets going.

Unfortunately all birds make a fair amount of noise. The likes of senegals and meyers (poicephalus) are reputed to be some of the quieter birds, along with smaller conures yet there are times when i could quite happily neck my meyers, (not really) and my neighbours have complained a few times about his high pitch squealing! but yes, all birds make noise, and plenty of it at times!
Most birds need a lot more time and commitment than people tend to imagine.

parrots take an awful lot of looking after. and don't think that small = quiet, conures are pretty small but some have very high, loud pitched calls. it's also pretty difficult to get someone to look after them while you're on holiday or whatever.

you say you want something that's clever? all parrots are clever but you have to spend time with them, lots of time. there are also some parrots that are best suited to an aviary and never really become tame even as hand reared babies, kakarikis, ringnecks and rosellas to name but 3.

i've been keeping parrots for years & do small scale parrot rescue. at the moment i've got an african grey, a senegal, a blue headed pionus and a hahns macaw. if you need any more info, just let me know.

Hi,

Parrots do take a lot of time to look after, most parrots are very intelligent (not like my spelling!). You need to remember that at times you are shuting up to a 3-4 year old child in a cage.

I have kept all breeds of parrot green-winged macaw, blue & gold macaw, hahns macaw, galah cockatoo, lesser sulphur cockatoo, down to canaries, finiches, budgies, teils, rosellas but to name a few.

I now have an African Grey, and looking out for hand reared babies linnies.

Please do not hesitate to ask any questions, if I can answer them for you I will.

Kind Regards
Anj

Thanks guys I think I can hand a medium amount of noise. unless they don't sleep I think the noise level should be fine. I can always put it on my shoulder while I do my HW.

that wont be enough i'm afraid. you'll need someone to spend time with it as well while you're away.
