RIP Phoenix
I sadly had to make the decision to have Phoenix, our Northern Velvet Gecko put to sleep at 5.05pm today. He had been gradually worsening for a few months.... eating less and less, getting skinnier and skinnier.
He had a series of abscesses covering his body, which looked like small white lumps. The vet believed that one was in his kidney, and there was also one underneath his throat, which may have been causing pain as he was eating. She had seen a leopard gecko before with the same condition, and spent months treating him, and by the end he was in a very bad state, so she had decided if another one came in the same she would put him to sleep rather than prolong the suffering. She couldn't give a reason why they happened. Phoenix was 5 years old, and has been with us for 3 of those years. He is the first gecko we have lost and it was the hardest decision I have ever had to make on my own. RIP baby Phoenix.... you were stunning and special to both of us.
