Not yet, Ronster.

Our Open day on Sunday is aimed at finding a geek who can make us one that is worthwhile.
We are raising cash as well, and educating the local trogladytes and prolitariat as well as many other things, but number one on the list of the trustees priorities is a good web presence. Number two is much more capacity, from vivs to aviaries and outdoor enclosures, so we can ensure we can respond to much more than we currently do.

Fortunately, our large aviary comes available again over the next few days, as the kestrel we have been nursing will be ready for release, and some of our small mammals will be available for rehome, so we can open the doors to degus, chins etc. again.

Been a busy week or so.

Anyone know much about raising wood pigeons? For some reason, two chicks have turned up on us, and I've never raised this type before.
Nothing like a challange.

Alan

If you like I can try and find out some information about the wood pigeon chicks for you?
My Grandad is a bit of an old hand and things like that (softie old farmer type) and his methods while they may seem out dated have been seen to work wonders. I can pick his brains tomorrow if you like?

At a guess from seeing him do things he used to get a hot water bottle and also a tea towel. Put the towel in the microwave so its nice and warm and wrap it round chicks. Put the hot water bottle underneath as the towel started to cool. As for food as daft as it sounds mashed gardens worms - larged nozzled syringe and let them eat as much as they want. How often Im not sure but I'll ask him

Thanks Vicky,

Just been reading up on it and that sounds about right.

These are about a week old, and I read that they will be having less and less crop milk now, and more and more seeds and worms.

Any advice gratefully received.

Any details on the open day? Sorry if there's a huge posting elsewhere, always find it's easier to jump in and ask rather then spend ages pootling about and missing something important

Hi Skooby,

Yep.

Sunday 9th between eleven and three.
Location is my home (gulp).
You can find this by leaving the M62 @ J27 and following the A650 towards Wakefield for half a mile. The event is on the right.
Exhibits will only be healthy, tame animals that we can trust and so far include;
Boa Constrictor
Corn Snake
Emperor Scorpions
Chile Rose tarantula
Young Meerkat
Young Wallaby
Skunk
Kestrel
Rosella Parakeet
Guinea Pigs
Giant Rabbit

Possibly Rats

On the day we expect to be releasing the kestrel back to the wild and the pigs and parakeet will become available for adoption.

Other attractions include, BBQ & Refreshments, Name the Skunk, Tombola, Bric-a-brac, raffle, photographer, face painting, henna tattooing, pony rides and lots and lots of collection buckets...........

We aim to raise over a grand, so we can kit out as described earlier.

Wish us luck, we will need it....................

Alan

Yep,

Twas us on Calendar the other day. And the YEP, and the Morley Observer, and on Saturday morning, at quarter past ten, we are on Radio Leeds. Special live appearance from Vinnie the Meerkat.

For the skunk lover.......she escaped yesterday, and after 4 hours of searching we found her behind a kitchen cupboard plinth, so last night was spent dismantling a fittied kitchen to get her out. This morning is a lesson in rebuilding kitchens

Thanks for the kind messages.

Alan
