how old is the bosc aswell, at 3.5 foot its probably an adult so ppl will be wanting to know the exact age of it, not just its length. Don't want a pet thats got a year left in it

Default BOSC

the Bosc is about 5 yrs old so you would still have a good 15-20 yrs or so if you looked after him-who knows maybe less or more. He likes to huff and puff, somtimes whips his tail - this type of lizard is not the type for cuddling. he will tolerate being picked up but would rather be left to roam around the room or be in his viv. Yes sometimes he can show his teath. If my girl friend can grab him and put him away then most beer drinking men, and women (and someone who is use to handling animals a little bit bigger than a leopard gecko), should manage fine. With more interaction he would be better. He doesnt look at you and think - IM GOING TO EAT YOU. More im going to run away and do what i want. handling aniamls isnt always good for them!
Im sure if the correct person is out there they will email and id call them back for a chat rather than have to write his complete history etc...
Yes he is big and old enough to mate, no he dosent eat carrots and no you shouldnt feed him burgers and dog food - well only if your short of rats, mice, chicks, beef heart, mince and any other meats... before the reptile shop opens again.

Default Blazey

does Blazey know anything much about reptiles - just that from some of the comments and questions i have seen on links... I DONT THINK SO!
Im sorry but any person that has been keeping reptiles for some time could tell you that a 3.5 ft bosc is an adut! I feel sorry for hammerman as blazey sure has a big mouth. All i wanted to do was advertize some animals and so it seams i have to enclose every detail for those that are inexperianced or dont have a clue. Please if you are a person that has less than 5 yrs experiance of keeping reptiles im sorry but i dont want to sell you anything. People that know about the animal/s in question only please for the welfare of that reptile. Those that want will know - however if you do purchase i am gladly able to talk shop, breeding, set up etc... till next door bring the cows home - which should be some time as they dont own any. Sorry to upset anyone but dont add comments that upset me.

Actually the 'flesh' part of a boscs diet should be minimal, they should be fed on primarily an insectivorous diet. To much mammal meat can make them fat and lazy, and it can contribute to early death due to kidney/liver failure.
Anybody who owns a bosc or is thinking of getting a bosc should get and read Daniel Bennets book "The Savannah Monitor: The Truth about Varanus exanthimaticus"

Please note that you would need to feed him about a 1000 crickets a week if just fed on insects!
Breeding large cockroaches is a good idea and very cheap. Insects can be a good way of exercising a Bosc as they need to run around to catch them but to keep them on a diet of crickets is just not going to fill it up. In the wild they will eat or attemp anything they come across. Any animal that nests on the floor or within reach is likely to be eaten. He gets exercise daily and in fact knows how to open his own viv and let himself out if i leave the latch off, and goes back home when hes had enough adventuring around the front room. They will eat lizards and snakes if they can find them in the wild and dead animals.
SOME GOOD ADVISE: BEFORE BUYING ANY ANIMAL - BUY A GOOD BOOK...and READ IT!

Daniel Bennetts book is recognised as one of the best books on Bosc's, their habits and their diet. He has spent over ten years studying them in the wild and in captivity. I am not suggesting that they can not have the occasional mice/rat but they should not be a major percentage of their diet. Roaches, crickets, snails, earthworms, crayfish, locusts, all make good food for Bosc's supplemented occasionally by the odd rat, mouse or dead chick (beak and feet cut off).

"Mammal are eaten only extremely rarely - just one example has been found in over 1000 samples"

"The only vertebrates regularily eaten are amphibeans"

Both from Mr Bennets book, Once again, if you have/want a Bosc, READ THIS BOOK!
