Where are my customers?
More seriously,I feel absolutely no offense with the discussion with both Andys-it's quite normal after all when you introduce something new ppl ask questions or feel skeptical. What I sell is not revolutionary,it already exists in many makes, but it's just cheaper I repeat. The Habistat reference I quoted is made for all kinds of incandescence bulbs, and metal vapour lamps are indeed incandescende bulbs. It is true that MOST stats will not be fit for such use, this is certainly what the warnings from Zoomed mean, maybe (pure supposition, but i think it is the case) when Zoomed Powersun lamps were launched in the pet trade, such stats did not exist. What I say about these specific stats is that they can be used on ALL lamps.I have just pm'ed another friend of mine,a pet shopkeeper in Belgium, who confirms these kind of stats work with no risks on bulbs & lamps. Also if the power is reduced by the stat yes there will be less UV provided for the animals, btw if you compare with UV neons the UVB% is bigger and the efficiency distance too,so even if the power (this UV quantity) is reduced,it will still be equal or superior to a neon tube. What I may add is that my friend has 40 yrs of Herp hobby behind him and his reptilarium exists since 15 yrs. With dozens of iguanas, uros, monitors, turtles ,incl babies, only heated and lit with these lamps, don't you think there would have been problems if they were not fit? He doesn t use stats ,as the vivs are very big (it's a place for visits, remember) because he doesn't need to.Andyb5 I will contact my friend tomorrow,as it is the tourist season he should be quite busy but i will ask if he could give me the data you ask. Is that all clear for everyone now?

This is what I found which seems to say not to use any thermostat as they can not be dimmed |

Go here and have a llok in "climate control" then "dimming thermostats",they say : "This is the only thermostat we recommend for use with incandescent light bulbs. It uses the latest technology and operates in a manner similar to the Pulse proportional thermostat. Instead of pulses of power being supplied to the heater, it is supplied with a continuous variable supply of power or voltage. In principle this has a similar effect to light dimmers or rheostats in your home. If the Dimming thermostat is being used to control a primary basking spot, then the size of the heater needs to be engineered to the temperature required and the size of the enclosure. In other words, if the heater is too large then it will be running at a very low level. Clearly, not what is required of a basking light. If the wattage of the light bulb is reduced, then the intensity of the heat locally will be greater, or proportional. "

I mentioned earlier in the discussion that a belgian pet shop keeper (a friend of mine) used these stats with MV Lamps with no problems...beyond this,i have read your link, but it now surpasses my own knowledge
