Vappour lamps are a great bulb, however it is generally said that they shouldnt be used withg a stat, this includes dimmer stats even though dimmer stats are ok for incadescent bulbs..which these UV ray lamps are...its cos of the Uv rays, they get at the least dimmed with the light thus not giving the amounts expected and to an extent being hard to predict, and at worse, fuck the bulb entirely very quickly.

prolly go with the former though.

May I say though DIMMER STATS DONT JUST DIMM... they will turn off if need be obviously.. this, being switched on and off more than once a day will kill the bulb, also vapour lamps need to cool down entirely before they will go on again, they simply wont switch back on if they are still warm, untill you wait for it to cool, then flip the switch off and on again.

Vapour lamps are best used without a stat, and for emergencys, on a normal on off stat set to highest temp allowable, so atleast if temps do go too high itll go off and thats that untill goes back to reasonable, by which point bulb woulda cooled down, not a great idea but prolly the better option than placing them on a dimmer.

May try a 160watt buld as a supplimetal to tube uv for my iggy.

the iguana will be a 'shop' pet and as such will be out ( in an enclosed area NOT free roaming) during the day and would like the UV still on him. Then when closed away at closing time will have the flourescent UV then.
