Hi there just wondering if our animals die on the way back, there is nothing we can do, right. is the survival rate very high.
Another thing do we need specific papers to say we can bring animals back into the UK, apart from out passport. and do we need a visa. I also read on the coach site we may have to prove the animals we are bringing back are for our hobby, how would we prove that. Thanks Nataliw

The long reply is its down to you to ensure that the animals you buy are in good condition, that they are suitable to travel, that you provide suitable containers, and supply suitable care whilst in transit. You can just buy animals, stick them in a box, say the die and expect us to pay up, under threat of sueing us or or not! The survival rate in march was (reps and amphibs only) over 96 %, with most deaths happening in 3 single, unconnected boxes. As far as bringing animals back, imports from europe are subject to CITES, dwa and EPS rules only. Whilst we provide links to information sites, you will need to ensure you know the laws and rules regarding the animals you intend to bring back. If you have a full UK passport, no you do not need a visa to enter France, Belgium, Holland or Germany. If you do not have a full UK passport, you will need to seek advice from the emabassys of those countries. Proving your animals are for your hobby and not part of a commercial activity will be requested by either Customs, who may wish to levy import duties, or Animal Health who may wish to that a type 2 transport licence is needed (which it is if the animal transport is for commercial reasons) Again, all the animals you transport in the hold of the coaches remain your responsibility, and so you may have to demonstrate that they are not for commercial reasons, something that you will have to demonstrate to the best of your ability. if you are bringing back a handfull of animals, there proberbly wont be any issue, as we do work very closely with ALL the agencies. We may refuse transport if we feel your activities are outside of our terms or that your actions will put other passengers at risk. Do you have any specific plans in mind? |

When you say suitable containers do you mean the poly boxes? Do the sellers suply a container to put the animals in which is then put into your poly box?
I have to admit Im a little confused with the rules and regs etc. Is there any chance of a thread detailing the rules and regs of the trip and the CITES, EPS and dwa guidelines please? More so for the people who havent been to a non UK show before, and maybe the members who have been to the non UK shows before could write their experiences etc so that we know what to expect?

Hi
Our terms are stated on the site, in both full and consise forms. As for legal matters, I cant give firm adivce as I am not qulified to do so, and there will be those who will take my words as gospel and not bother checking things for themselves. However, I can advise you that the rules on cites and eps etc are the same EU wide. For example, CITES. If an animal you buy is cites 1 appx A, then you will need the correct paperwork to confirm it origins etc. Cites2 appx B requires only a reciept stating that its CB showing the sellers name and other details. Its so hard to provide help as the subject is so vast and complicated, but if having looked at all the info on the links on the web site, you are still unsure, you are welcome to contact us and we will try to point you in the right direction. Having said that, I will try to get some clearer pointers on the site. Last edited by purejurrasic; 24-05-2008 at 04:02 PM.. |
