Is it:

  • Because it's a friends photo
  • Other
I go for technical ability, it's those photos that have had thought and time put into them and in my opinion, those are the photos that should win.
just plain and simply the one i like best...

I've noticed with potm that the ones that go through to the final and win are more about quality than actually adhering to the theme. They're all very very good, don't get me wrong... but surely the whole point of having a theme is simply that, it shouldn't just be about the quality (especially seeing as a lot of people don't have amazing cameras).

Thats true to a certain extent but what you also tend to find is that they are in focus and composed well. You don't really need a good camera to do that. People who are prepared to spend more on a decent camera tend to be into photography so the photos will be better. This isn't just down to the camera.

Don't mean to be nit picky, but isn't a photography competition about taking a good photograph and adhering to the theme? Surely its a pre-requisite that is should be in focus, well composed etc as that is part of the skill implied in a photography competition? You don't even need a flash camera, many of my photos have been taken with a £50 fuji film one without any special features, just patience and many attempts! The photograph should catch the imagination of the onlooker, and to do that, in most cases, it will need to be clear, focused and to make it stand out, quirky. Look at TT's winning shot this month, not the best photograph technically, but he captured a magic moment, which was truly fantastic...and it won because of that.

Jebus.

Didn't mean to offend anyone or start something...

I agree that it's a mix of both the creativity of the picture and the theme. I just mean there are times that there's been a really good photograph, the idea has been brilliant, the shot is excellent, but the quality hasn't been great, and it didn't get through.

Anywayyyyyyyyy.

I was just saying lol.
