I think that people should be able to enter each competition, regardless of were they may have placed in the previous POTM.

I dont think winners or 2nd and 3rd placers, should be excluded from competing, thats not healthy competition at all...Its like being punished for being a winner?!!!...My camera is crap, compared to some, but I want to compete against the top guys on here. I would not want these POTM's to have some sort of handicap, what would be the point in that...

As I have said before, take it on the chin if you didnt make a final (I have in the past) then get hungry, get pissed, get out there, get some good themed pics taken, and come back an wipe the floor with the opposition ...T.T.

Hmm personally I think if you won the months before you should be able to enter.. but if you've won say three in a row then you would be exempt for that month..Just to give people a better chance.

Having not made it into a POTM final until now, despite putting in (in my opinion anyway) some good entries, I suddenly feel the urge to comment on this thread.

I kind of see why people feel winners should not be allowed into the final 2 months running as it does seem that the same names often crop up. I'm not sure how fair this really is. Manchester United have never been banned from entering the FA cup because they won the league last season... The only way I see that it could be unfair is if people start voting for others simply because they know they take good photos so don't really look at the other entries. It's far more likely that people vote for their mates if they get into the final.

Maybe what the competition needs is a method of posting pictures so that it is all anonymous except to the moderators when it comes to sorting out the winners? I'm not sure how practical this is, and I suppose there'd be nothing to stop people telling everyone which their picture was anyway, but it's just a thought.

People seem to moan endlessly about this competition and yet still enter! I completely understand the disappointment and annoyance when you've entered what you think is a good picture but it doesn't make the final. Let's face it; who enters if they're not pleased with their own work?
And yes, it is ten billion times more annoying when there are pictures which you think are far less imaginative/colourful/representative of the theme or are poorly composed and out of focus than yours, but when you enter the competition, you agree to the terms and the way it is judged. The endless rantings on this discussion don't change the results anyway! Fine, feel a bit miffed that you didn't make it - I know I have done on a few occasions - but don't keep going on about it!

Anyway, I'll stop going on now.... sorry, wasn't meant to be this long! I'm chuffed to be in the final anyway.
