Mmm, probably best not. I only have about 2 or 3 decent pics of my marmosets. They are bloody hard to photograph cos they are so fast! hehe

I find you are competing against professional photographors, maybe not professional but extremely good ones with very expensive cameras.

Do you thing it's worth competing with this?

i just used my camera phone with a 3mp camera on it and got inrto the final lol though i think the standards are always very high (well they were till they let mine into the final)

What are the morphs (i'm assuming it's a beardie rather than an agama or something) of Dave Flames' picture? They look AMAZING. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k2...h-3-051308.jpg

to be honest i'm more often surprised by the amount of very very amateur photos that do get into the final. I'm not saying thats a bad thing, because sometimes the photos are of a cute expression etc but the actual composition and quality of the photo is pants.

True but reptiles are not always the best models and its a case of take the picture quick rather than spend time setting a shot up. Like you say this is not a bad thing as it shows the reps how we get to see them.

Also true but I think the point is that some of the photos could be better even with a cheap camera just by taking care of what is in the frame etc. Or by taking loads of shots and choosing the best one. My entry made it through to the final this time and it is nowhere near the best shot I've taken, its just that out of all of them it stood out as unusual.

I think that overall the mix is good, we get some excellent quality pics entered by people who are very good photographers but also some that capture the character of the animals.

Maybe having a decent camera helps, but you still have to know how to use it. My camera certainly didn't cost more than £100, but I've taken what I think are some reasonable photos with it. Lots of patience, a good idea and a bit of luck seem to be the main requirements for a good picture, and yes, the finalists this time generally appeared to have decent cameras to get that level of detail, but look at last month's Halloween tortoises - it was a hardly the best ever photo in terms of detail, focus, or even composition, but it made people laugh.
